Stay off Cross Fork Creek--go to Lower Kettle--from their State Park--on further south. There are some dangerous--bad locals that hate kayaker types--numerous log jams, old rusty cars--and rattlesnakes all along Cross Fork Creek, not to mention low water.
Cross Fork is pretty small and shallow for kayaking.I am sure that they mention it on their web site because there are other streams in the area that would be much more suitable.
Kettle Creek, from Ole Bull State Park clear to the mouth at Westport (you would have a little portage around the Alvin Busch Dam)would be my recommendation. Or, if you felt like driving a bit (about 1/2 hour to 45 min. away), Pine Creek is used quite a bit by canoeists and kayakers.
By the way, yes, there are cabins available for rental in the area-just follow the camping and lodging link on the web site.
